An Exclusive Interview with Evelyn Pryce + Giveaway (Thank you, Authors! Thank you, Fellow Readers!)

I'm always on the lookout for debut authors and Evelyn Pryce's name and book came up during Read a Romance Month. (Read Evelyn's contribution here.)

As with all debut novels, I listed the release date of A Man Above Reproach in my calendar and I waited eagerly for its release. I consider myself very, very lucky that my request for an ARC was approved by Montlake through Netgalley.

The rest, as they say, is history: I read the book. I loved the book.

Now, I am honored to welcome Evelyn Pryce to my blog. You cannot imagine how thrilled I was when she agreed to do an interview for Love Saves the World. ^_^

LStW: Can you tell us the story behind A Man Above Reproach? What was your inspiration for the story?
Evelyn Pryce: I haven't thought about this for a very long time and when I started going back in my memory, I realized that it actually came from one sentence. Just one (well, technically, two) that popped into my head. "A duke could not play piano in a brothel. Ridiculous." I would have to check, but I think that line survives in the final manuscript in a different form. But, that was the sentence, I have no idea where it came from, it just appeared.

From there, of course, I had to know who that duke was and why he would end up behind that piano...

LStW: In three words, can describe your creative process?
Evelyn: Couch, laptop, caffeine.

LStW: Tell us about joining the Amazon Breakthrough Novel contest.
Evelyn: A very good friend of mine sent me the link on Twitter. I wish I would have saved that tweet, but goodness knows I did not think at the time that it would be a turning point. It was also case of total synchronicity: I had been striking out with agents and the contest required that the book be free from previous entanglements. A Man Above Reproach was free as a bird -- in fact, I couldn't get anyone to look at it.

LStW: What's the best lesson you've learned from joining (and winning) the contest?
Evelyn: Listen to your friends. Little risks can lead to great things. (Oddly, when I look back on it, these are big themes in my book.)

LStW: What's next for Evelyn Pryce?
Evelyn: I'm working on a Victorian gothic called The Thirteenth Earl, complete with seances and family curses. It's a load of fun and I can't wait for you to read it!

2013 Winner — Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award — Romance

In 1830s London, scandalous whispers surround the pub known as the Sleeping Dove, a hidden bordello catering to nobles eager to shed the trappings of their stations. Josephine Grant knows the rumors are true -- she plays piano at the Dove and is known only as the "Bawdy Bluestocking" to the pub's faithful.

The reluctant Duke of Lennox is called "The Uncatchable" by society ladies, not that he cares for them or their nicknames. Elias Addison's estate was thrust upon him when his father died, and it has been little else but a burden.

When a friend brings him to the Sleeping Dove in an attempt to lighten his mood, the Duke of Lennox finds himself at the Bawdy Bluestocking's piano, and together they begin to play a dangerous melody. Though Elias cannot resist courting her, she has a past to protect, a shaky future, and no time for frivolous nobility with soft hands. When the Duke uncovers the truth, will he wish he had never heard the tune?

  11. Hi everyone!

Thank you all so much for the kind words and I really hope you like the book. I put my heart and soul into it; I'd love if it makes its way into yours.

VampedChik...interesting question! I think Hugh Dancy would make a wonderful Lennox. I'd love someone like Anne Hathaway for the Bawdy Bluestocking...but she looks just a touch too young. That one will require some thought!
