Throwback Thursday: Historical Romance Edition

Thank you to Shabby Blogs ( for the free frame!

Happy Thursday, everyone! And welcome to a new feature on Buried Under Romance and Love Saves the World.

What is Throwback Thursday?
Traditionally, Throwback Thursday celebrates nostalgia, asking participants to post a personal photo or an image from their past -- usually from 5 to 10 years ago. There are a lot of book blogs that also do a book-related Throwback Thursday.

The Historical Romance Edition:
Since Mary of Buried Under Romance and I are unapologetic lovers of historical romances, we've decided to focus on our beloved genre.

Here are our rules:
1. It must be posted on a Thursday.
2. It must be a historical romance novel published before October 3, 2008.

The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran, published March 2008

In a debut romance as passionate and sweeping as the British Empire, Meredith Duran paints a powerful picture of an aristocrat torn between two worlds, an heiress who dares to risk everything...and the love born in fire and darkness that nearly destroys them.

From exotic sandstone palaces ...

Sick of tragedy, done with rebellion, Emmaline Martin vows to settle quietly into British Indian society. But when the pillars of privilege topple, her fiancé's betrayal leaves Emma no choice. She must turn for help to the one man whom she should not trust, but cannot resist: Julian Sinclair, the dangerous and dazzling heir to the Duke of Auburn.

To the marble halls of London ...

In London, they toast Sinclair with champagne. In India, they call him a traitor. Cynical and impatient with both worlds, Julian has never imagined that the place he might belong is in the embrace of a woman with a reluctant laugh and haunted eyes. But in a time of terrible darkness, he and Emma will discover that love itself can be perilous -- and that a single decision can alter one's life forever.

Destiny follows wherever you run.

A lifetime of grief later, in a cold London spring, Emma and Julian must finally confront the truth: no matter how hard one tries to deny it, some pasts cannot be disowned ... and some passions never die.

I'm about to start reading Meredith Duran (Fool Me Twice), so I decided to feature her debut novel in this week's TBT:HR edition. Admittedly, this is not my favourite of her books (I love A Lady's Lesson in Scandal), but it was a wonderful introduction to her very unique perspective and voice.

  1. Oh you'll love Fool Me Twice!!! That was my first from Meredith and might just have to pick up some of her backlists too after starting at them for years. LOL

    1. Hi, Ki! Now I'm doubly excited to start reading it!

Try A Lady's Lesson in Scandal! It's Duran's take on the Cinderella story. ^_^

  2. I liked A Lady's Lesson in Scandal, also! I remember liking parts of Duke of Shadows too.

  3. Good pick Tin.
I've read some of Meredith's books and liked them.
She's one author that I plan on reading more of her books.
I do have FOOL ME TWICE, but haven't read it yet.
