A new #wouldyourather question and Winners from the giveaway!

Thank you to everyone who joined the first "Would You Rather..." discussion -- I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the question and it's been a challenge coming up with another one, which is why I'm thinking of making this a monthly feature. I'll post a question at the start of every month and it'll always have a giveaway attached to it. ^_^

Here's one I came up with last week, and I know I should wait until September 1 to post it, but I'm too excited. It's inspired by the idea of the serialised novel. Eloisa James tried this format out when she serialised With This Kiss and released it in 2 separate instalments, one every week. I've also seen other authors release their books this way, and I have to say the cliffhangers and anticipation for the next chapter/installment are part of the fun of following a serialised novel.

I wanted to do a theme so I'm comparing it to novels in a series. There are authors who release books close to each other: the books in Grace Burrowes's Captive Hearts trilogy were released July, August and September 2014 -- and there are authors who only release one book a year, and then there are authors whose release dates for books in the same series are very far apart from each other (the third book in Maya Banks's The Montgomerys and Armstrong series will be coming out in 2015, the book prior to this was released in 2013).

So, here's the "would you rather" question --

  1. I think I'd prefer a series of novels once a year. I don't want to read a story piecemeal, I want to be able to finish it in one sitting.

    1. Hi, Linda!

Thank you for your comment! I had the same concern when Eloisa James's book came out -- I didn't know if I could stand waiting a week for the next instalment ... so I just waited until it was all released and read it together. ^_^

What's the longest you've waited for a next book in the series? I'm following Banks's series, so I have to wait until 2015 to read the last book in that series. ^_^

  2. Recently I read a lot of fanfics and I think it's more exciting this way? Maybe it's because of that feeling you couldn't sleep until the next installment, or also a nice, quick break from the daily grind.

  3. I don't really care for serialized novels, I'd rather read the story all at once. That's why I've waited on any that I've been interested in, I'll just get it when it's all finished and read it all together.

    1. Hi, Barbara!

Which is why, I'm glad that, in Eloisa James's case, the parts were only 1 week apart -- so I didn't have to wait to long to read the complete story. ^_^

  4. A series of novels issued once a year I think. Not keen on serialised.

  5. I'm with the series of novels side, I'd like to read the whole book together. I actually liked what's been happening with Jill Shalvis' Lucky Harbor and Susan Mallery's Fool's Gold series- the 3 books in their trilogy were release in 3 consecutive months, so not a year-long wait between books. I really like having the stories out in such a short time but I don't know if all authors can write that quickly and come up with good characters and storylines for us to enjoy!

  8. I'd rather have access to the whole story all at once - so once a year! With Grace's monthly releases each month there is an entire novel that fits as a piece of a larger story. If you can possibly read one without wanting to know what happens to the characters in the other novels, it is possible and you have a complete story. However you have the option of reading the next novel for a richer story. :-)
