Throwback Thurday: Historical Romance Edition #16

Thank you to Shabby Blogs ( for the free frame!

Happy Thursday, everyone! And welcome to a new feature on Buried Under Romance and Love Saves the World.

What is Throwback Thursday?
Traditionally, Throwback Thursday celebrates nostalgia, asking participants to post a personal photo or an image from their past -- usually from 5 to 10 years ago. There are a lot of book blogs that also do a book-related Throwback Thursday.

The Historical Romance Edition:
Since Mary of Buried Under Romance and I are unapologetic lovers of historical romances, we've decided to focus on our beloved genre.

Here are our rules:
1. It must be posted on a Thursday.
2. It must be a historical romance novel published before October 3, 2008.

This Magic Moment by Patricia Rice, published August 2004

Duke Harry of Sommersville indulged in a carefree, comfortable life -- until a sudden inheritance leaves him plagued with a crumbling family manor and hungry debtors. What's a desperate duke to do but marry the well-heeled woman betrothed to him for years?

Christina Malcolm Childe soon discovers the heavy demands of her new title and the dilapidated and haunted mansion that is her new home. To make matters worse, her magical gift of reading auras reveals that her laughing Harry has become a dark and bitter man. But this mischievous Malcolm has a plan of retaliation: to refuse to consummate their marriage until Harry learns to love her truly.

If only she can resist his raw masculinity long enough to determine the cause of his unhappiness and the mansion's neglect. She must find her answers quickly, before the worm-eaten floors fall from beneath her very feet. That is, if Harry doesn't sweep her off them first...

Patricia Rice's Malcolm-Ives (Magic) series is one of my all-time favourite series read EVER and it's top of my re-read pile, which I still dream of tackling sometime in this lifetime. The Malcolm women are gifted with magic/mystical powers and the Ives are men of science and technology -- it's interesting to see these two families mix romantically. This Magic Moment was the first book of this series that I read and Christina is marrying her childhood friend and long-time fiancé (not an Ives, though) -- there are ghosts and a crumbling castle and all sorts of funny and romantic things happen through the course of the story.

I really should re-read this series.

  1. I haven't read Patricia's works but I was looking at her books the other day. And this book was one that I added to my to-read list. LOL

  2. I love how she mixes the paranormal with the historical -- it's very sweet and entertaining! ^_^

  3. These books sound fabulous. I love the way you described them and the fact that they are at the top of your reread list. I will have to check them out because I love paranormal and the mix with HF sounds awesome! Thanks for sharing. :)
